Our History
Originally founded in Canada in 2000 with a focus on pure essential oils, botanical skincare, & natural perfumery, our founder”s growing fascination with perfume formulation would compel her to travel to Grasse, France to attend the Grasse Institute Perfumery program, (International Technical Degree in Fragrance Creation and Sensory Evaluation), in 2007. After spending almost 2 years in the region studying and then interning in 2 of the most important companies in the region, (Robertet & Mane), she would come to understand that to develop ones profession as a perfumer, it made sense to stay, & to integrate into the rich and beautiful perfume culture of the region.
Since 2011, 1000 Flowers has therefore quietly established itself in Grasse, a city known as the birthplace of modern perfumery. The boutique, opened in 2017, is a testament to years of dedication and commitment to the art of fragrance creation.
We curate meticulously our raw materials palette, and never use non-biodegradable polycyclic musks, and as increasing availability allows, we choose synthesised molecules produced via green chemistry and white biotechnology. Our botanical ingredients are sourced from well established distilleries in Grasse, as well as small producers throughout the region and beyond. We focus on sourcing from independent small farmers/distillers, and ingredients with the FOR LIFE label whenever possible. All fragrances are blended in pure & natural grain alcohol with no synthetic denaturants.
Our packaging is fully recyclable and/or biodegradable, with no cellophane wrapping, our ribbon is 100% cotton, and our over-caps are 100% aluminium with no plastic liner.
100% Vegan. Conscious Perfumery. Phthalate-free. Never tested on animals,. IFRA compliant. Safe Synthetics. Natural focused. Socially responsible.

Our Perfumer/founder
Born in rural western Canada, Jessica September Buchanan developed an avid interest in wild plants & herbology at a young age. This interest would eventually lead to acquiring accreditation from the American College of Health Studies in Clinical Aromatherapy. This foundational understanding of the chemistry of fragrant botanical essences would form the bridge to perfume formulation: the combining of science with art.
Following the life-changing experience of studying in France, she would finally choose to remain in Grasse, captivated by the richness of its natural resources and its historical significance in the world of modern perfumery. (and of course, for the sunshine & the flowers).
Her company, 1000 Flowers, has remained proudly independent and fully woman-owned and operated. Every decision, from the use of simple, ecological packaging to our choice of ingredients, is guided by a deep respect for nature. We stand behind sustainability initiatives, support equitably traded materials, and embrace innovative practices such as white biotechnology to ensure our creations are not only luxurious but also mindful of the planet.
